FG Nominates Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, Shehu Sani, Reno Omokri for Ambassadorial Roles
Former governors of Abia and Enugu States, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alongside former senator Shehu Sani and ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri, have been nominated for ambassadorial appointments by the Federal Government.
According to Vanguard, the nominees are currently undergoing security screening by relevant agencies as part of the vetting process. Their résumés have reportedly been submitted to security bodies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), for background checks.
This development comes nearly a year after Nigeria recalled its ambassadors from foreign postings, a move that drew concern over its impact on the country’s diplomatic presence and foreign relations.
While one nominee confirmed the appointment under the condition of anonymity, others have yet to publicly acknowledge their nomination. A senior Presidency official, who also spoke anonymously, explained the delay in the official announcement.
“They are already undergoing security checks with the DSS. Once they are cleared, the list will be released. Only those who have been cleared are announced. The process is ongoing. I believe we should have a list before the end of the month.”
