Daniel Bwala has reacted to reports that Bishops Abioye and Aremu are set to retire from their roles at Living Faith Church.
He said, this unfortunate precedence might question the reciprocal loyalty of presidents and founders of churches, to any pastor who serves under them, and consequently open the floodgate of proliferation of churches. This is not a good precedence by every standard.
Why the forced retirement of men of God is repugnant to both natural and spiritual justice, equity, and good conscience. The church is not an enterprise governed by worldly bureaucracy.
These retired men are absolutely loyal, they have energy, insights, health and foresight. They sacrificed their lives in loyalty for service.
Jesus is the head of the church. The LFC mandate needs review to accommodate the early church practice. There is nothing called retirement in ministry for the early church. All the Apostles never retired till their death. John the Apostle did not retire till he died at good old age. In our time we should learn from Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). The current general overseer was never related to the founder and the leadership was handed over to him in 1981 after the death of the founder.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was founded in 1952 by Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi (1909–1980).
Adeboye was a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos and had joined the church in 1973. Adeboye was initially a Yoruba-to-English interpreter for Akindayomi’s sermons. He was ordained a pastor of the church in 1975. His appointment as the leader (styled ‘General Overseer’) of the church in 1981, was formalized by the posthumous reading of Akindayomi’s sealed pronouncement. In 1990, the Redeemed Christian Church of God Bible School was founded.
