Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has reviewed the number of Special Assistants on Political Units he will appoint from 28,000 announced on Wednesday to 50,000 despite criticisms that have greeted initial announcement.
The latest appointment was contained in a press statement by Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant on Media to the Governor. He said the appointments will take immediate effect. The governor had on Tuesday, 11 October, 2022 appointed 14,319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.
He reviewed the number on Wednesday October 12 to 28,000 and today, Thursday, October 13,he reviewed the number to 50,000. However, concerns have been raised that the appointees are political th¥gs being given cover of government by Wike. The speculation is rife given the fact that the governor has failed to specify the job description of the new appointees.
