Senator Natasha Sues Senate President Akpabio for Def+mation, Demands ₦100bn in D+mages

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a def+mation lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over remarks allegedly made about her appearance and legislative competence.

The suit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, also names Akpabio’s aide, Mfon Patrick, as a defendant.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Victor Giwa, argues that a statement published by Patrick on Facebook—insinuating that the senator focuses more on makeup and transparent outfits than legislative duties—was def+matory and d+maging to her reputation.

She is seeking a court declaration that the statement was def+matory, an injunction preventing further such publications, and ₦100 billion in d+mages along with ₦300 million in litigation costs.

This legal action follows a recent dispute in the Senate, where Akpoti-Uduaghan resisted a seat reassignment after a chamber reshuffle, leading to a cl+sh with Akpabio. The Kogi senator has since been referred to the Senate Disciplinary Committee over the incident.
