NYSC Members in Jato Aka Turan Cry Out for Security as Fresh Att@cks Leave 20 D+ad in Two Days

NYSC members serving in Jato Aka Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, have raised urgent security concerns following fresh att@cks by suspected herdsmen that have reportedly claimed at least 20 lives within two days.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the corps members described the att@cks, which occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, as sustained and devastating, leaving many injured and the community in panic.

Despite the presence of a nearby military base, Jato Aka Turan remains highly vulnerable to insecurity. The corps members alleged that arm+d men frequently move through the villages in broad daylight on motorcycles loaded with w+apons.

The Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the affected corps members has reportedly advised them to relocate to Adikpo if the att@cks escalate. However, concerns remain high as corps members say even the LGI rarely visits the community, except for monthly clearance exercises.

One corps member, recounting the dire situation, stated, “We reported to the nearby military checkpoint, and they told us to contact them whenever there’s a problem. But we see over 20 bikes filled with arm+d men moving freely towards nearby villages.”

A Facebook user, Wase Richie Aondofa, also shared g¥ry images from the att@cks, calling on relevant authorities to intervene, saying, “My village is no longer safe. We are d+ing.”

Meanwhile, a corps member’s WhatsApp status revealed further distress, claiming that NYSC officials had downplayed insecurity concerns during orientation camp. He also reported that the Nigerian Air Force had conducted aerial bombardments in the affected area.

Efforts to get a response from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, declined calls and has yet to respond to inquiries.
