Money derived from removal of fuel subsidy should be used to raise minimum wage instead of increasing politicians’ salaries — Sen. Shehu Sani

In response to rumors that the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) will be raising politicians’, judges’, and public office holders’ salaries by 114%, Senator Shehu Sani has issued a statement.

Many people were shocked by the announcement because Nigerians are still struggling economically as a result of the termination of the gasoline subsidy.

In response to news of the salary hike for legislators, Sani wrote in a tweet that raising the wages of the poor should take precedence over those of the elites at this time.

As a former member of the National Assembly, he said that with the raise, federal lawmakers will receive a salary of roughly N2 million.
