Burnaboy bags Grammys nomination as his S. African concert is cancelled

Africa Unite, the highly publicised anti-xenophobia concert which Burna Boy was billed to headline in South Africa has been cancelled, due to threats of violence, IOL reports.

This is coming as the the singer got nominated at the 62nd #GRAMMYs  in the Best World Music Album category.

The concert organizers, Phambili Media and Play Network,confirmed Wednesday morning, that after engagement with Burna Boy’s management a decision to withdraw his name from the line-up and as a result cancel the concert.

Consequently, both legs of the concert that were scheduled for Hillcrest Quarry, Cape Town, on November 23 and Sun Arena, Pretoria, November 24 were cancelled.

Yemi Alade’s “Woman of Steel” and Burna Boy’s “African Giant” were the Nigerian albums in the fight to get the Grammy nomination for “Best World Album” but Burna edged her. The Grammy Awards will be held on Monday 27th January 2020.
