FG to Launch 77,400-Unit Social Housing Programme; Says Those Earning N30k and N90k Will Be Able to Buy a House
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon launch the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme to meet the housing needs of Nigerians across all income levels.
Speaking at the Ministry’s headquarters on April 8, 2025, during a visit by Creative Sphere Limited, Dangiwa said the programme targets low-income earners, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and IDPs.
He revealed the Federal Government will construct 100 housing units in each of the 774 LGAs—totaling 77,400 units—within one year. Describing the plan as “visionary,” he added, “It reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to decent housing.”
Funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF), each estate will include “recreational areas, a primary school, a police outpost, a clinic, and a shopping mall.”
“80% of the houses will be sold to Nigerians living in the local government areas who earn a living wage,” he said. “Anyone earning as low as N30,000 per month will be able to purchase a house, as they will only need to pay N10,000 monthly… someone earning N90,000 will pay N30,000.” He added that 20% of the houses will go free to “widows, orphans, and others.”
Dangiwa said the initiative is part of the broader Renewed Hope Housing programme, which also includes Renewed Hope Cities and Renewed Hope Housing Estates. The Cities are being developed in the FCT, Rivers, Lagos, Enugu, Nasarawa, Kano, and Maiduguri through PPPs.
Under the Estates project, “We are constructing 250 units, taking two capital cities from each geopolitical zone, making a total of twelve… funded through the Federal budget.”
He praised the upcoming Real Estate Innovation and Investment Carnival by Creative Sphere as “an excellent avenue to promote the housing sector.” Present were Chairman Monday Ogedengbe and Queen of Real Estate, Fatima Abubakar Zara.
