Women’s Group Apologizes to Senate Over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Allegations

The Nigerian Women Crusade for Good Governance (NWCGG), representing 100 women’s groups, has issued an apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Senate over allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

During a press briefing in Abuja on March 11, 2025, NWCGG spokesperson Dr. Cecilia Ikechukwu condemned Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions, calling them “disr¥ptive, cr+de, and distasteful.”

She stated that the senator’s conduct had emb+rrassed Nigerian women and undermined the credibility of female politicians striving to earn public trust.

The group accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of having a history of blackmailing men in power and using false allegations for political relevance.

They commended Akpabio for his support of women’s inclusion in governance and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting female leadership.

NWCGG urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to use her six-month suspension for self-reflection, therapy, and a better understanding of Senate rules.

They emphasized that her behavior had reinforced negative stereotypes about women in leadership but insisted that her actions should not overshadow the progress of Nigerian women in politics.

“Women in governance must inspire, not emb+rrass,” the group stated, urging Nigerians to focus on the achievements of female leaders who have served with distinction. They called on citizens to uphold good governance and hold leaders accountable, stressing the importance of character, maturity, and responsible leadership in building a nation rooted in integrity and respect.
