Made-in-Nigeria Helicopter Set to Fly Soon — NASENI
Nigeria is on the verge of flying its first made-in-Nigeria helicopter as engineering work on the project nears completion, officials of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) have revealed.
The helicopter, developed entirely within the country, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s push for indigenous technological advancement. The Project Manager of NASENI’s Aeronautics and Air Vehicle Development Institute, Kaduna, Kareem Aduagba, disclosed this during a Focus Group Engagement held in Kaduna.
The event, organized by NASENI, brought together inventors, manufacturers, industry leaders, and policymakers from academia and the private sector. It aimed to promote local manufacturing, innovation, and the adoption of made-in-Nigeria products as part of the country’s broader industrial and technological growth strategy.
Speaking on the project, Aduagba stated, “What we are doing now is not to reinvent the wheel. We have initiated projects from first principles, including the made-in-Nigeria helicopter and several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).”
Also addressing the gathering, the Head of the Manufacturing Services Department at NASENI’s Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute in Kano, Abdulfatai Ambali, underscored the agency’s renewed focus on commercialization, collaboration, and innovation. He emphasized that under its current leadership, NASENI is intensifying efforts to drive national development through engineering and technology.
With the project in its final stages, Nigeria is set to join the ranks of nations with locally developed aviation technology, reinforcing its commitment to self-reliance and industrial growth.
