Shock in Anambra as Two suspects in Justice Azuka’s m¥rder escape from police custody
Two suspects linked to the k+lling of Anambra lawmaker, Justice Azuka, have escaped from police custody, the state police command confirmed on Tuesday night.
Anambra police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the suspects fled while assisting operatives in an investigation to apprehend a receiver of stolen vehicles used by the criminal gang. Although the receiver was arrested and two stolen vehicles recovered, the suspects managed to escape.
Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted on December 24, 2024. His decomposing body was later discovered on February 6 at the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha. Nine suspects were initially arrested in connection to the crime.
Following the escape, Anambra Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed intelligence and operational assets to track down the fugitives. He also ordered immediate disciplinary action against officers involved in the escape.
