A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced four dr¥g lords to prison after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 2,139.55 kilograms of coc@ine from a residential estate in Ikorodu in 2022.
The convicted individuals are 71-year-old Soji Jubril Oke, 55-year-old Wasiu Akinade, 67-year-old Emmanuel Arinze Chukwu, and 44-year-old Jamaican, Kelvin Christopher Smith.
NDLEA operatives arrested the suspects at various locations across Lagos and charged them with six offences under case number FHC/L/607C/2022 in late 2022.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Justice Yellim Bogoro delivered the sentencing in a statement released on Thursday, December 26.
The statement said, “The trial judge handed the Jamaican, Kelvin Christopher Smith, four years imprisonment with hard labour; Emmanuel Arinze Chukwu received a total of 16 years; Soji Jubril Oke was sentenced to five years with hard labour, and Wasiu Akinade got three years with hard labour.
The trial judge, however, gave the convicts varying options of fines, except for one who must serve the full jail term without an option of fine. [SWIPE]
