The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the revocation of 762 land plots in Abuja belonging to several high-profile Nigerians and corporate entities due to non-payment of their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O).
Additionally, Wike warned that the Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) for 614 individuals and companies will be withdrawn if outstanding payments are not made within two weeks.
The affected plots are located in the prestigious Maitama 1 District of Abuja. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued two public notices detailing the revocations.
Notable figures whose C-of-O have been revoked include the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation, associated with former President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Others affected include former governors Rochas Okorocha, Ben Ayade, Seriake Dickson, Shaaba Lafiagi, Ahmad Sani, and Kabiru Gaya.
The list also encompasses several former and current federal lawmakers, including Enyinnaya Abaribe, Abdul Ningi, and Dino Melaye, among others.
The FCTA’s notice stated, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration wishes to inform the allottee(s)/title holder(s) of plots of land in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills after the expiration of the grace period granted.”
This move underscores the administration’s commitment to enforcing compliance with land use regulations.
