Police operatives in Gombe State have arrested a suspected human tr@fficker, identified as Khadija Shehu-Manzo, who allegedly sold a b@by for N400,000.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mahid Abubakar, said the suspect was arrested alongside 15 others engaging in the criminal act.
While parading the suspects on Wednesday, January 10, the spokesperson revealed that Shehu-Manzo colluded with 15 others including a staff member of Gombe Local Government Area to commit the crime last weekend.
He said the suspects were nabbed following an intelligence report from the Barunde community.
“The community claimed that sometime within last year one Khadija Shehu-Manzo and 15 others were involved in s£lling young babies to people in need.
Upon receipt of the report detectives attached to low-cost division swung into action where full-blown investigation was carried out and the said Khadija was arrested.
The remaining suspects arrested confirmed that Shehu-Manzo allegedly sold two b@bies to Ukamaka Ugo on different occasions.
Shehu-Manzo sold one child for N400,000. Out of the money from Tina Raphael, she gave N200,000 to one Haruna Abubakar, who is working with the Social Welfare Gombe in the name that he was going to make relevant documentation available for proper handing over of the child.
Yahaya Sulaiman was the person that received the money on Abubakar’s behalf,” he said.
According to the police, the two babies were tr@fficked to Lagos and Anambra. The police said they were working to recover the tr@fficked children, saying Ukamaka Ugo bought two children.
