”Worry not for the country is in excellent hands,” President Bola Tinubu reassured the nation’s traditional leaders, adding that his administration is acutely aware of Nigerians’ high aspirations.
The President pleaded with the traditional rulers present at the conference to convince Nigerians to have faith that the price of fuel at the pump will eventually decrease in light of their support for the decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy.
“I am appreciative that you have been observing what I have been doing. You’ve been keeping an eye on the subsidy removal. Even though our neighbors claim that Christmas is not every day, why should we, in good conscience and common sense, feed smugglers and act as Father Christmas to them?
“The subsidy is the elephant in the room that was going to bring Nigeria to its knees.” a nation where we claim to have potential for self-encouragement but cannot pay salaries. I believe we made the right decision, he said.
In all parts of Nigeria, President Tinubu acknowledged the need for vital infrastructure and said that his administration will remove any barriers standing in the way of Nigerians’ growth.
Where will the funding for capital projects come from if we don’t safeguard our resources and territorial integrity? Without capital investments, development is impossible, he continued.
