The police in Delta state has given more insights regarding the woman, Martha Igbigbi, who was a§§aulted and deh¥manized by some police officers in Agbarho, a community in the state.
According to a statement by the police spokesperson in Delta, Bright Edafe, the officers involved had been arrested and were awaiting orderly trial. He also condemned the unprofessional conduct of the police officers.
The police described as “dehumanising” the way the officers treated the woman, adding that “no citizen deserves to be treated in such a manner either by the police or anybody”. “The police condemned the use of rope by the officers to ti£ the woman’s hands “(It) is not a police accoutrement and as such, should not be used by policemen in whatever guise while carrying out their duty.
After a careful examination of the video clip, it is clear and obvious that the policemen acted in an unprofessional manner unbecoming of police officers. The Command condemns their act in totality.”
Edgar, further stated, “On 22nd March, 2023, one Thankgod James reported that the said woman sm@shed his vehicle windscreen and a§§aulted him, on the strength of this report, a woman police was sent to invite her, the suspect became aggressive, a§§aulted the policewoman and tore her clothes.
So, the policewoman called for reinforcement, when the reinforcement arrived, the woman again po¥red a pot of soup on one of the Policemen even while on uniform. While condemning the actions of the Policemen, and as the command have assured members of the public that they will be duly sanctioned, it’s also important for members of the public to behave themselves, and exercise retrain when interfacing with the Police.”
