Just In: Finland authorities reportedly arrest IPOB’s spokesperson, Simon Ekpa

The National Bureau of Investigation in Finland, (KRP), have arrested spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa.

It would be recalled that Simon Ekpa, a local Lahti city councillor representing the National Coalition Party, had called on millions of people to boycott upcoming Nigerian general elections from February 23 to February 28, using social media.

Ekpa is the spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist movement agitating for the secession of Biafra in southeastern Nigeria. IPOB also comprises the Eastern Security Network, which is a paramilitary group.

Lahti’s Etelä-Suomen Sanomat newspaper reports that Ekpa “doesn’t hide the fact that he is participating in the £limin@tion of government officials.” He even leads the operation and acquires we@pons”.

Helsinki Times reports that the Federal Government had called on Finland to stop Simon, from leading the armed revolt in southeastern Nigeria. Last week, the Nigerian foreign minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, invited the Finnish ambassador, Leena Pylvänäinen, to a meeting because of the topic.

The FG asked Finland to clamp down on Ekpa’s activities, fearing that they could derail the peaceful conduct of 2023 general elections.

Jussi Nummelin, the team leader for Western and Central Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, told HS News that Finland shared the concern for security, and condemns v#olenc£ and incitement to it, as well as “actions aimed at preventing people from exercising their democratic rights”.

According to HS News, police had stormed Simon’s apartment on Thursday to effect an arrest. ?: HS
