We will prosecute anyone who rejects the old Naira notes — Lagos govt. warns

The Lagos State Government has issued a warning that anyone who rejects the old Naira note, will be prosecuted.

Following the controversy sparked by the Naira scarcity problem, the Lagos state has issued a statement stating that the Lagos State Government wishes to record the tolerance and composure of Lagosians. The Supreme Court postponed today’s hearing on the case until February 22 after the State Government joined the issue there.

However, the apex court declared the old notes to still be legal tender when the issue was originally raised on February 8.That opinion remains the same. Those who refuse the old notes are hereby warned by the State Government to stop doing so or risk legal action. Rejecting the old notes is illegal because it goes against the Supreme Court’s stance.

Lagosians are urged by Governor Sanwo-Olu to uphold the law and avoid troublemakers who might take advantage of this fleeting opportunity to forward their anti-people agenda. He is certain that the judiciary will find a solution to every problem relating to the dilemma of the cash shortage.

Furthermore, Lagos State has begun distributing the food packs that the Governor promised in order to mitigate the impact of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) directive on the old notes, particularly on the most vulnerable among us. As ordered by Mr. Governor, all State transportation facilities are still offering 50% off of their regular rates.
