Pres. Buhari seeks support for victims of Pakistan flood as de@th toll rises above 1000

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the people of Pakistan over the flood dis@ster ravaging parts of the country.

The country is experiencing the worst monsoon floods in recent history. According to the government, the floods are bigger than the 2010 ‘superflood’ that impacted 20 million people and k#lled almost 2,000.

Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change, in a statement on Saturday, August 27, said 33 million people — almost 15% of Pakistan’s population — had been affected and 1,041 had been k#lled in the floods.

This comes two days after the country declared a national emergency on Thursday, August 25, and called for international help as the de@th toll from months of flooding continues to rise.

President Buhari in a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Saturday, said Pakistan and its population were in the thoughts and prayers of Nigerians as they confront this humanitarian dis@ster of epic proportions.

The president appealed to the United Nations and other aid agencies to take urgent steps to assist people without shelter and food as well as the millions who require urgent humanitarian relief.
