Five inmates reportedly prevented from bolting away as unknown g*nmen visit Jos prison

The Nigeria Correctional Service (prison) located in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has come under att*ck from unknown gunmen.

According to PM News, five inmates of the facility, who attempted to bolt away on Sunday, November 28, amidst an exchange of gunfire with the att*ckers, were stopped. The attackers were said to have pretended to be on a visit before they opened fire on reaching the gate of the correctional facility.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette but could not immediately ascertain the level of casualty at the facility.

A senior official of the service, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that five inmates attempted to escape. They were stopped by armed personnel of the service. “Five inmates had tried to escape during the exchange of g*n but were promptly resisted and re-arrested by our armed men,” he said.

He added that there is currently heavy presence of joint security personnel around the correctional centre. Meanwhile, according to Sahara Reporters, some of the unknown g*nmen are trapped in the facility.
