COVID-19: Nigerian pastor and congregation fined N14million for holding illegal service in Australia

A Nigerian pastor, Marvin Osaghae, and his congregation, have been fined $35,000 (about N14million) for holding illegal church service in New South Wales, Australia.

Osaghae, who is a pastor at Christ Embassy Sydney, and 30 of his members were fined on Sunday, August 22, hours after he led a prayer for an end to lockdowns.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that about 60 people, including children, who travelled from COVID-19 hotspot suburbs, attended the illegal church gathering.

30 adults were each fined $1000 for failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction, while the organisation was fined $5000.
