Graduates Must Become Investors, Job Creators and Not Job Seekers — NYSC DG

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has emphasized that Nigerian graduates should evolve into job creators, employers, investors, and globally certified professionals, rather than limiting themselves to job-seeking.

NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made this point in Abuja during the 4th meeting of the Scheme with heads of professional and regulatory bodies. He commended their role in maintaining a smooth mobilisation process, noting that professional skills and certification “would add more value to the academic qualifications acquired by any individual.”

Nafiu highlighted that for 52 years, the NYSC built on the pillars of national unity and development has prepared youths to serve the nation. “Our graduates cannot merely be job seekers but must be job creators, investors and globally certified professionals,” he said.

He assured that the Corps will continue to provide manpower for the country while repositioning the service year into “a cubicle of professional excellence, ethical leadership and entrepreneurial innovation.”

Expressing optimism, he added: “I am confident that with your support we can form a new legacy of competence and integrity. The future of Nigeria is in the hands of our youths. How we equip them today, will determine the prosperity, unity and global competitiveness of our nation tomorrow.”

Similarly, Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Muhammed, observed that collaboration with regulatory agencies has “yielded tangible benefits over the years, including improved mobilization procedures, and has enhanced efficiency,” but acknowledged there are still procedural gaps to address.

The meeting drew participants from the Ministry of Education, JAMB, NECO, NBTE, and other key institutions.
