Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has stirred controversy by asserting that single mothers cannot raise boys into “proper men” without the involvement of a male figure.
Speaking in an interview with Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana, Iyke argued that women are naturally built to nurture and love, but raising a boy requires the discipline and guidance of a man.
“A woman can’t raise a man. You’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly. You need a male influence – your brother, father, or any trusted man. There has to be a male presence in raising a boy,” he said.
He added that without such influence, boys risk growing into “we@k men” who mirror the same traits of the men who abandoned their mothers. According to him, only a strong male presence can instill discipline and toughness in a boy’s upbringing.
