Bauchi governor appoints Chinese man as economic advisor
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed Mr. Li Zhensheng, a Chinese national, as Economic Adviser to the state government.
The announcement came on Thursday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed said the appointment and partnership are part of efforts to position Bauchi as a hub for international cooperation, with a focus on attracting investments, driving infrastructure development, and fostering bilateral collaboration in sectors including agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade facilitation.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation, with project agreements to be developed individually. As part of the deal, Bauchi will open a Representative Office in China to oversee project execution and ensure timely delivery.
Mohammed noted that the agreement aligns with the diplomatic framework between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, aimed at strengthening ties at both national and state levels.
“This agreement is not just about infrastructure—it’s about transforming lives. We are opening Bauchi to the world,” the governor said, adding that the collaboration would attract foreign direct investment, create jobs, modernise sectors, enhance skills, and improve the state’s global profile.
Zhensheng, who is also Chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, pledged to mobilise international resources to support Bauchi’s economic growth. “We are committed to helping Bauchi achieve sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and improved livelihoods,” he said.
