Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has shared thoughtful advice on how to approach choosing a spouse, urging singles to think beyond romance and consider practical compatibility.

Speaking candidly, she likened marriage to building a sports team, where balance, teamwork, and versatility are crucial. “Everybody has to be able to do it all,” she said. “Each person in a couple has to be able and willing to do it all.”

Using a basketball team as a metaphor, Michelle explained that selecting a partner should be like picking players—not just someone who can shoot, but someone who can support the team in various roles when needed. “You don’t want to marry a man who is like ‘I don’t cook’. It’s like, well, what happens if I can’t cook?”

She emphasized the unpredictability of life and the importance of choosing someone who can step in when things get tough.
