Edo Governor Begins Mobilization for Tinubu’s 2027 Reelection, Welcomes PDP Defector
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced the start of mobilisation efforts for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.
He made this known in Benin City while receiving Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Osamwonyi, who represents the Uhunmwonde constituency and serves on the House committee on budget and appropriation, was first welcomed by APC state chairman Jarrett Tenebe before being formally presented to the governor.
Governor Okpebholo praised Osamwonyi and four other defectors for strengthening the APC and assured them of collaboration and support. “Your defection has made our party stronger. Many others are ready to join us — very soon, it will be a carnival of defections,” he said.
Highlighting his focus on development, Okpebholo added, “Let’s work together to transform Edo and improve lives, especially in Uhunmwonde, a local government that’s dear to me.”
On the 2027 election, he declared, “We have already begun campaigning for President Tinubu’s reelection. We must engage the youth — they are critical to our mission.”
Presenting the lawmaker, Tenebe stated the APC now holds a majority in the Edo Assembly. “Osamwonyi returned because of the visible progress under this administration,” he noted.
Explaining his defection, Osamwonyi pointed to deep internal crises within the PDP. “From the national to ward levels, the party is divided. I had to return to the APC, where I once belonged.”
He applauded the state’s development efforts, especially projects targeting Uhunmwonde. “The ongoing initiatives reflect a real commitment to my constituency. I’m here to ensure continued progress for my people.”
