Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan sues Senator Nwaebonyi for ₦5 billion over allegation that she has six children by different men
Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has instituted a N5 billion def+mation suit against her colleague, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, for allegedly claiming she has six children by different men.
Filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the suit—led by her counsel, SAN M.J. Numa—describes Nwaebonyi’s comments as false, malicious, and a calculated attempt to d+stroy her reputation.
Akpoti-Uduaghan told the court that Senator Nwaebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North and is the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, made the statements during a nationally televised interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on March 6, 2025. In the interview, he allegedly labeled her a “gold d+gger,” “habitual liar,” and “bl@ckmailer,” while also claiming that her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, married her under duress.
She argued that these comments, widely shared on social and online platforms, caused her severe reputational h+rm, embarra§§ment, and emotional distress.
According to her, the remarks portrayed her as someone who manipulates relationships for financial gain, extorts individuals, and lies frequently.
The suspended senator believes the statements were deliberately made to discredit her and influence public opinion against her, especially in light of her ongoing petition before the Senate. She noted that Nwaebonyi is a member of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions—raising further concerns about his motive.
Akpoti-Uduaghan is seeking a perpetual injunction restraining Nwaebonyi and his associates from making or repeating the d+famatory statements. She also wants a full retraction and public apology published in at least two national newspapers within seven days of the court’s judgment.
In addition to N5 billion in d+mages, she is asking for post-judgment interest of 10% per annum until the sum is fully paid. No date has been set for the hearing.
