Nigerian Soldiers Decry “Unsafe” Food, Unpaid Allowances, Others
Soldiers deployed under Operation Fansan Yamma in Katsina and Zamfara have raised serious concerns over p@@r living conditions, including inedible food, unpaid allowances, and unsafe drinking water.
One soldier, speaking to SaharaReporters, described their meals as “p+isono¥s and disg¥sting,” lacking even basic meat. “Even Almajiri wouldn’t eat this happily,” he lamented. He also noted that their drinking water comes from a borehole d+ng£rously close to toilets, raising contamination fears.
Despite their sacrifices in f+ghting bandits, the soldiers say they have endured these hardships for over two years and six months, forcing many to consider quitting. “We are risking our lives, yet we s¥ffer. P@@r feeding, no allowances paid on time,” he added.
Beyond these struggles, troops are also frustrated by the military’s failure to rotate them. Originally assigned a six-month deployment, many have now spent over two years at the frontlines without seeing their families. They are repeatedly told there are “no funds” for their redeployment.
The ongoing neglect has left the soldiers demoralized, raising concerns about their welfare and operational effectiveness in the b+ttle against banditry.
