NYSC Corps Member Raises Alarm Over Thr+ats From Officials After Criticizing Government
A serving NYSC corps member in Lagos has alleged threats from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after posting a video criticizing the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
In the viral TikTok video, the visibly emotional corps member lamented how skyrocketing prices have made life unbearable, questioning the government’s efforts to curb inflation. She called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a “terrible” leader for failing to address the economic crisis.
“I just got back from a supermarket, and prices have increased again. Every week, things get more expensive. Eggs are now N6,500 per crate! I remember when they were N800. How are we supposed to survive?” she cried.
She also decried the p@@r living conditions in Lagos, high utility bills, and expensive transportation. “Being an NYSC corps member is not beneficial. I spend more on transportation than the allowance we receive,” she added.
However, less than 24 hours after posting the video, she shared another clip revealing she had received thr+atening calls from NYSC officials demanding she delete the post. In the recording, an official was heard scolding her, saying, “Are you normal? Take down that video immediately!”
The corps member stated that multiple NYSC officials warned her to stop criticizing the government and remove the video. The incident has sparked discussions on free speech, economic hardship, and the rights of corps members to express their frustrations.
