Tinubu Approves Establishment of Two New Federal Universities in Osun and Ekiti States
President Bola Tinubu has signed into law two bills establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Speaking on the significance of the new institutions, Tinubu emphasized their role in addressing educational needs, fostering research and innovation, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
He noted that the universities would serve as training hubs for professionals in agriculture, science, and technology, enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who addressed the media after the signing at the State House in Abuja, lauded the President for approving the specialized institutions.
He highlighted their mandates to bridge knowledge gaps in environmental technology and promote innovative research in food security and agricultural development.
Before the President’s assent, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa had strongly advocated for the universities’ establishment.
In a letter to the Presidency on February 19, 2025, he urged Tinubu to approve the bills passed by the National Assembly.
