Panic as Bishop Ighele Calls for Ban on Valentine’s Day in Nigeria Over…

The General Superintendent of the Holy Spirit Mission, Bishop Charles Ighele, has called for a ban on Valentine’s Day celebrations in Nigeria, citing concerns over its perceived promotion of sin.

Speaking in an interview in Lagos, Bishop Ighele argued that Valentine’s Day has deviated from its original purpose of promoting charity and humanitarian work. Instead, he claimed, it has been misinterpreted as a day focused on romantic relationships, leading to moral decline, especially among young people and married couples.

Describing the celebration as a “deception from the devil,” he alleged that the day is influenced by Cupid, whom he referred to as a “romantic d+mon” linked to the promotion of s+x¥al indulgence. He referenced biblical scriptures to support his stance, emphasizing that love, as described in the Bible, should be centered on agape rather than eros.

“The day is associated with Cupid, the Roman name for the Greek god Eros, from which the word ‘er+tic’ originates. The celebration of Valentine’s Day fuels s+x¥al desires and entertainment, further institutionalizing imm@rality,” he said.

Bishop Ighele claimed that the widespread acceptance of Valentine’s Day encourages people to engage in activities that contradict biblical teachings on love and morality. He, therefore, urged the Nigerian government, religious institutions, and educational bodies to work together to instill positive social values and discourage what he sees as h+rmful cultural influences.

To curb what he described as the “d£str¥ctive effects” of Valentine’s Day, the cleric called on authorities to officially ban the celebration in Nigeria.
