Singer Tems Becomes First African Woman in MLS Ownership as She Joins San Diego FC Ownership Group

San Diego FC (SDFC) has announced that GRAMMY-winning and Oscar-nominated Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Tems has joined the club’s ownership group through her company, The Leading Vibe.

Known for her distinctive sound and cultural influence, Tems brings her passion for creativity and community to the world of soccer as an SDFC Club Partner.

“We are delighted that Tems has joined San Diego FC,” said SDFC Chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour. “She is a globally significant artist who will help us reach new audiences and strengthen our connection to sub-Saharan Africa through the Right to Dream organization.”

SDFC CEO Tom Penn echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Tems’ commitment to empowering young talent. “Her values align perfectly with our mission, and we look forward to building connections between music and soccer to unite communities.”

Tems has earned widespread acclaim, winning a GRAMMY for Love Me JeJe from her debut album Born In The Wild, and another for Future’s hit Wait for U. She also received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Her authenticity and impact resonate with SDFC’s vision of community and culture.

“I am thrilled to be part of San Diego FC, a club that celebrates creativity and connection,” said Tems. “Football has a way of bringing people together, and I’m excited to help build something special in San Diego.”

She joins an esteemed group of Club Partners, including actress Issa Rae, World Cup winner Juan Mata, retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and MLB All-Star Manny Machado.

Tems’ involvement comes through a partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm. As part of this collaboration, Tunde Folawiyo and Kwamena Afful of Pave Investments will also join the SDFC ownership group. Together, they aim to amplify the impact of Right to Dream Academy and SDFC, inspiring and empowering communities on and off the field.
