A Germany-based Nigerian medical doctor has said we can do better,” as he laments his mother’s six-month stay at UPTH in Rivers State.
He said his mother was on admission in the University of PortHarcourt Teaching Hospital for surgery and she was there for 6 months without any success. The procedure was canceled four times because of one reason or the other.
The first was cancelled because the registrar did not checked that she was on a medication she didn’t needed for the surgery. This was discovered on the morning of the surgery. The second was canceled because a nurse told her to eat prior to the procedure, which was wrong. The third was cancelled because there was no electricity while the last was canceled because the doctors went for a conference. He had to relocate her to another private hospital, where the operation was done.
Another turn-off for the hospital is the compulsory feeding for all patients of the hospital. The meal cost N2000 per day and it’s compulsory for all patients whether you like it or not and the foods are nothing to write home about.
Lastly, the hospital is full of over grown weeds that is calling for concern. He has this concern because he did he house job at the same hospital 12 years ago and with connection to his doctor friends, his mother’s treatment cost N6million . How many ordinary Nigerians can afford that?
