A Nigerian woman residing in Canada, Amaka Sunnberger, is currently under investigation by the Toronto Police Service for thr3at3ning to p3ison Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin descent.
The alarming thr3at sparked outrage and prompted swift action from both Nigerian and Canadian authorities. Sergeant Bassey Osagie, a representative of the Toronto Police Service, confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously. “This incident has been reported to the Toronto Police Service and is currently under investigation,” Osagie told Punch.
The situation escalated after the Nigerian House of Representatives, along with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), formally petitioned the Canadian authorities. They are demanding a thorough investigation and the prosecution of Sunnberger for her inflammatory remarks, which have caused widespread concern within the Nigerian community both in Canada and abroad.
