Don’t give admission to candidates below 18 years — FG orders JAMB

The federal government has stated that only candidates that are up to 18 years will gain admission in the 2024/2025 academic year.

The Minster of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, stated this in his welcome address during 2024 Policy meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions/NELFUND Half Hour Briefing on Thursday.

Mamman whose declaration met with loud mumuring by the audience, urged anyone who dissatisfied with the decision which he said is within the law, to go to the National Assembly and asks for amendment of the law.

“If you want the child to start from four, you an go back to the National Assembly and amend it,” he said. The minister who was unable to proceed with his address as a result of the uproar, had asked “Are we together?”

However, the stakeholders had responded with a resounding “No!”. The minister who seemed unperturbed with the development, continued with his address as he tried to give reasons for pegging the new admission benchmark at 18.
It took the intervention of the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, to restore order to the policy meeting.

The policy meeting on education is an annual event.
