Lagos CP orders trial of police officers seen a§§aulting a man in a viral video

Adegoke Fayoade, the Lagos commissioner of police, has ordered the orderly room trial of some officers over the alleged a§§ault of a suspect while attempting to arrest him.

On Tuesday, a video showing some police officers b3atintg up a man while attempting to dr+g him inside a minibus appeared on social media. In the less than one-minute video, the man is seen shouting that he would call his lawyer and that the police officers would pay for the a§§ault on him.

In a statement on Wednesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said officers from the Alausa division had received numerous complaints about “flagrant ab¥se of hard dr¥gs” at Makinde Odewale street in Oregun. Hundeyin said some officers were mobilised to the area on July 2 to arrest suspected illicit dr¥g users and dealers.

He added that the police officers were resisted by the suspects, noting that an inspector was st@bbed with a broken bottle. “The inj¥red inspector has since been hospitalized. Nonetheless, a reinforcement team succeeded in arresting some suspects with substances suspected to be illicit dr¥gs,” the statement reads.
“Regrettably, the reinforcement team, in their bid to ensure the arrest of the mastermind of the att+ck on the police officer, resorted to unprofessional, unethical, and uncouth methods, which were captured on video. CP Fayoade totally condemns the actions of the police officers, as those actions are not in tandem with the values and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police,” the statement read in part.
