Court sentences police officer to d£@th for k+lling a phone dealer who refused to give him N100 bribe in Delta

A High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State has sentenced a police Inspector, Ubi Ebri to d£@th for m¥rd£r.

The police inspector was accused of k+lling one Mr Ibeh Onyeka, a phone dealer, at a checkpoint in Asaba, on April 5, 2023.

He reportedly sh%t and k#lled the deceased for refusing to give him a bribe of N100.

The Prosecution led by E.H Edema, a Director in the Ministry of Justice, alleged that the defendant, was part of the Police Patrol team that mounted the stop and search exercise.

The deceased and his wife were said to be driving from Ugbolu to Asaba when they were flagged down by the police team for search.

The defendant was said to have opened fir£ on the vehicle leaving the deceased d£@d after he was hit on the head by b¥llets.

The wife of the deceased who sat in the front seat with him was however, unhurt.

The Court, presided over by Justice C. D Diai convicted and sentenced the defendant to d£@th on Tuesday, June 12, 2024.
