After only seven months of marriage, American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus has filed for a divorce from his wife and colleague, Johanna Rosie Hodges better known as Firerose.
Court documents reveal the 62-year-old country star and father of popstar Miley Cyrus filed for divorce from Firerose, 37, in Nashville on May 22, 2024, TMZ reports.
The court documents cite irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as the reason for divorce, while Cyrus is also asking the court to grant him an outright annulment, claiming the marriage was obtained by fr@ud.
The two musicians were friends for years before they began writing songs together during the COVID-19 pandemic. They started dating in 2022 and got engaged later that year before tying the knot in October 2023.
“10/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony. It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined,” they wrote in a joint Instagram post at the time.
The divorce marks the end of Billy Ray’s third marriage … he was married to Cindy Smith from 1986 until 1991 when they divorced. His second wife is Tish Cyrus, they were husband and wife for 3 decades and had three kids together — including Miley, Braison and Noah, —until Tish filed for divorce in April 2022.
