LASU sacks Dean of Student Affairs over Certificate Racketeering

Lagos State University (LASU) on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, sacked Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko from his position as Dean of Student Affairs following allegations of certificate racketeering.

The management of LASU, in a statement signed by spokesperson Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile on Tuesday, said its attention had been drawn to recent reports regarding alleged “Certificate Racketeering” and a “sting operation” in the university.

Thomas-Onashile said it had been established that the management of the institution had promptly brought the original allegations to the attention of general law enforcement authorities, including the office of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

According to the spokesperson, the authorities have not yet concluded their investigations but Lagos State University management does not take such matters lightly.

Thomas-Onashile added that the university’s inquiries into the allegations will be concluded before the end of the year 2023.

“Consistently with applicable law, the outcome of the inquiry will be published and appropriate action will be taken,” she said.

Thomas-Onashile also said that for emphasis, there has been no “cover-up” and there will be no “cover-up”.

Meanwhile, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, has been appointed as the acting Dean of Student Affairs in place of the sacked Olumoko.
