There was pandemonium at the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja on Tuesday morning when two factions of the union clashed over the leadership cri§is rocking the union.
It is reported that the two rival factions of the union clashed fiercely amid a simmering leadership cri§is that has lasted for over a year since Lagos kingpin and state chairman of the NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo, rebelled against the national leadership of the union. Sahara Reporters report that one Tajudeen Badru Agbede mobilised thugs from Lagos state to the secretariat of the union located at Garki 2 and att#cked the national officers including the current president, Tajudeen Baruwa. The att#ckseems to be part of plans by Mr Akinsanya who has recently rejoined the NURTW, abandoning the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee (LASPARK) that he chaired with the help of the state government, to reclaim his national stature within the union.
The att#ck group took control of the national secretariat and forced the officers out of their premises. Curiously, the officers of the State Security Services (SSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, deployed to maintain order and prevent violence, seemed to have transformed into passive spectators, standing on the sidelines as chaos reigned.
