Chief Mrs. Lawumi Fajemirokun, in a powerful valedictory speech delivered at Queen’s College on the 13th of August, emphasized the importance of challenging societal norms that prioritize individual achievements over collective victories for women. She urged the graduating class to celebrate every woman’s accomplishments, fostering an environment of support and empowerment for all.
Mrs Fajemirokun, who is an alumni of the school, encouraged the graduating students to cherish the bonds they have forged, for they form the bedrock of a sisterhood that extends far beyond their time within the hallowed halls of Queens College.
In her insightful words, she emphasized that “in a world that often measures success by individual achievements, we must challenge the status quo and build a foundation of unity that propels us all towards collective victory. It is not enough to celebrate the triumphs of a single woman; we must celebrate the victories of every woman.”
She implored the graduating students to embrace the value of being givers. She reminded them of the profound wisdom shared by Winston Churchill, who said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Furthermore, on behalf of the esteemed @offoundation_, she presented select graduating students with Samsung tabs. In this era of technology, it is vital that our young people, particularly those who face financial hardships or have special needs, are equipped with the necessary tools to thrive, in a rapidly evolving world.
She also paid a visit to Rebecca’s Room, an inspiring initiative by the old student’s association of Queens College. This space is a technological haven where special needs students can freely access computers, and engage with technology without limitations.
