Doyin Okupe, a leader in the Labour Party, has urged Nigerians to put party differences aside and support President Bola Tinubu in his efforts to bring democracy back to Niger after the military overthrew President Mohammed Bazoum.
Okupe wrote on his official X account that everyone should denounce Niger for demeaning Nigeria’s presidency.
After Tinubu dispatched an emissary to Niger in an effort to persuade the junta to reinstate democracy in the neighboring country, Okupe made the call.
I am not suggesting we go to war with Niger, he wrote. Niger, however, cannot disparage Nigeria. I won’t accept that as a patriot. We shouldn’t remain silent due to internal conflicts and let this take place. Presidents are temporary officials. If we don’t all fight for that seat, it won’t be worth it.
“In this time of global conflict, all Nigerians, including our political leaders, must band together and rise up to defend our sovereign state. It makes no difference who is president.
