The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Michael Charles alias Thankgod Ekwueme who allegedly took advantage of the d£afness of his wife to s£ll their three children for a total of N1.5 million.
It was gathered that the suspect s%ld the three children at Omerelu, a community in Ikwerre LGA.
The suspect, whose wife is d£af and d¥mb, s%ld the 5-year-old for N700,000, 3-year-old for N350,000 and a day old baby for N500,000.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, while parading the suspect on Thursday, July 14, said the sale of the children was facilitated by an herbalist who collected N1.55m from buyers, but paid Ekweme only N350,000.
The herbalist was said to have told the police that the amount he paid to the father of the children was based on their ‘business agreement’.
In an interview with Journalists, Ekwueme, said he was intercepted by operatives of OSPAC Vigilante in his community Omerelu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state when he was about s£lling another of his newborn baby.
Adding that he was s£lling the children because he lacked the finances to take care of them.
Others involved in the racket include a medical practitioner and a former Councillor, the police said.
Meanwhile, the mother-in-law of Mr. Ekwueme explained to journalists that before now, the suspect had been lying to her that her grand children di£d after child bearing.
