She stated that a call from an unidentified number this afternoon asking her to help return a recharged card that had been accidentally sent to her line convinced her that scammers are using a new method to take money out of accounts. She confirmed the validity of the call before doing so.
Despite this, she received a call from the number, who thanked her for her assistance before going on to say that he was attempting to contact his elderly father in the village. She answered the call by saying that it was no problem.
After a short while, she received a call from an unknown individual thanking her for assisting him in sending the card that his son had unintentionally sent to her. He thanked her and began to pray in his own language for her.
She pretended to have left the phone after he told her to go get some water and salt so he could use it to pray for her. She replied that she had already done so after hearing the man’s instructions when he told her to put the water over her head. She claimed that this man began reciting prayers and incantations out of the blue, and that she failed to respond with a “Amen.”
After the prayer, he asked her to pay him for the work done. She responded that she only had N100,000 in her account and advised her to borrow more money. He continued to recite incantations after this, and when she realized she was doing so, she hung up the phone.
