Pending the appointment of a new CBN governor or the unlikely recall of Emefiele, who was suspended by Tinubu on Friday night, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi is now the acting chief central banker of Africa’s biggest economy.
Shonubi will act as the Central Bank Governor according to director of information, SGF office. He has been serving since October 17, 2018 – to date.
Shonubi holds double Masters Degree respectively in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering, from University of Lagos. He is a banker with over 30 years professional experience.
Prior to his appointment as Deputy Governor in the Central Bank of Nigeria, he was the Managing Director/CEO in the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System PLC from 2012 – 2018.
He became the Managing Director/CEO, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc from May 2012 to October 2018. October 2018 to date.
Mr. Folashodun is the Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) representing the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on the Board of FIRS since the 9th of December, 2019.
He is married with children. On June 9, 2023, he became the Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
