The error happened as newsreader Lukwesa Burak said, “This is BBC News from around the world and the UK,” to open a program outside of the studio.
Before cutting to footage of a crowd listening to a bagpiper, viewers saw the BBC News logo briefly flash up on the screen.
But as the newscaster responded, “Okay,” the television abruptly turned back to the studio and the newsreader stretched out her arms. Unaware that she was still on air, Lukwesa Burak didn’t seem to notice.
Lukwesa however was looking down at her notes with an open mouth and appeared to be trying to hold back laughter as soon as the camera swung back to her live in the studio.
An additional technological error prevented viewers from hearing what the presenter was saying as she spoke for the next 30 seconds while sitting in silence.
