Ex-Pres. Obasanjo’s in-law bags seven years imprisonment for forgery

Dr John Abebe, an in-law to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was on Saturday, February 18, sentenced to seven years imprisonment for forgery and laundering by a special offences court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

Justice Mojisola Dada sentenced him to seven years imprisonment with an option of N50million fine to be paid within 30 days in lieu of imprisonment.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Abebe, who is the younger brother to the late former First Lady, Stella Obasanjo before the court for forgery.

The EFCC, in the charges, claimed that Abebe “knowingly forged” a November 30, 1995 letter written by BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon Limited.

The trial judge gave the judgement after establishing that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him accordingly.
