A bill that seeks to ban cross-dressing in Nigeria has s¥ffered a temporary setback during consideration, DailyPost reports.
The Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase, on Tuesday, December 13, ordered the sponsor of the bill, Muda Lawal, to step down the bill stating that his argument is not convincing enough.
Recall that the bill, which was introduced in April 2022, seeks to amend the same-s3x marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 by including cross-dressing as one of the offences under the act.
If passed into law, crossdressers risk six months in prison or a fine of five hundred thousand naira.
It is worth adding that this is not a rejection of the bill, it could still be debated again if the sponsor provides a convincing argument.
