Japa: Three Nigerian stowaways rescued dehydrated after spending 11 days on the rudder of a ship

Three Nigerians stowaways have been rescued alive after spending 11 days on the rudder of a ship that travelled from Nigeria to the Canary Islands.

They were found perched on the rudder of the Alithini II oil tanker at the Las Palmas port by the Spanish coastguard.

Spain’s Salvamento Marítimo in a statement on Monday, November 28, said they appeared to have symptoms of dehydration and hypothermia and were transferred to hospitals on the island for medical attention.

According to the MarineTraffic website which tracks ships, the Malta-flagged vessel left Lagos, Nigeria on November 17 and arrived in Las Palmas Monday.
