The Englishman rallied from out of nowhere to score a fifth-round knockout of welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and earn the title in the main event of UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday, August 21.
Edwards, expected to be down in the fight to most, had nearly no time left to make something happen before uncorking a head kick with his right leg that sent Usman out cold. Edwards scored the fourth latest finish in a championship fight when it was stopped at 4:04 of Round 5 by referee Herb Dean — just seconds short of Usman’s own finish of Colby Covington in 2019.
This is coming hours after Kamaru via his Twitter, promised to be@t Leon Edwards to a pulp. However, it is important to note that Usman has never lost in the UFC and has only dropped one fi#ht in his professional career.
